Use of "This and That" as Pronouns

1. This এবং these নিকটের ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুকে এবং that ও those দূরের ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুকে নির্দেশ করে। This এর Plural these এবং that এর Plural those.

This is my house. That is a school.

2. পূর্ববর্তী Clause বা Sentence-এ দুটি Noun-এর উল্লেখ থাকলে পরবর্তীটির জন্য this এবং পূর্ববর্তীটির জন্য that ব্যবহৃত হয়।

Suman and Sabbir are friends; this (Sabbir) is a footballer and that (Suman) is a cricketer.

3. কোন Sentence-এ একই জাতীয় Noun-এর মধ্যে তুলনা করার সময় পূর্ববর্তী কোন Noun-এর পুনরাবৃত্তি এড়ানোর জন্য that এবং those ব্যবহৃত হয়। পূর্ববর্তী Noun-টি Singular হলে তার পরিবর্তে that of এবং plural হলে তার পরিবর্তে those of ব্যবহৃত হয়।

Incorrect: The rice of Barisal is better than the rice of Dinajpur.

Correct: The rice of Barisal is better than that of Dinajpur.

Incorrect: The mangoes of Rajshahi are better than the mangoes of Dinajpur.

Correct: The mangoes of Rajshahi are better than those of Dinajpur.

4. কখনও কখনও পূর্ববর্তী Clause এর পরিবর্তে This বা that ব্যবহৃত হয়।

He says his prayers and that (i. e. he says his prayers) proves his devotion to God. 

5. One, ones, none, the same, such এবং so ইহারাও Demonstrative Pronoun হিসাবে ব্যবহৃত হয়।

(a) Such: পূর্ববর্তী কোন Noun-কে নির্দেশ করতে Demonstrative Pronoun হিসেবে such ব্যবহৃত হয়। ইহা If

Singular Plural উভয় Number-এ ব্যবহৃত হয়। He is a born criminal and acts as such. you are my well-wisher (well wishers). prove yourself (yourselves) as such.

(b) The same: অনেক সময় The same Demonstrative Pronoun হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত হয়। He made the same mistake as his brother (that his brother made)

(c) So: So যখন Demonstrative Pronoun হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত হয় তখন ইহারা say, think, tell ইত্যাদি Verb-এর পরে বসে। এক্ষেত্রে "so" Indefinite (অনির্দিষ্ট) Demonstrative Pronoun) Do you think that he will make a good result?

(d) One, ones: পূর্ববর্তী Noun-এর পুনরাবৃত্তি এড়ানোর জন্য Demonstrative Pronoun হিসেবে one এবং তার Plural ones ব্যবহৃত হয়।
