Appositives: Nominative, Objective and Possessive

যখন দু'টি Noun পাশাপাশি বসে একই ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুকে বুঝায় তখন দ্বিতীয় Noun-টিকে প্রথম Noun-এর Appositive বা Case in Apposition বলে। এক্ষেত্রে দ্বিতীয় Noun-টি প্রথম Noun-টি সম্পর্কে অতিরিক্ত তথ্য প্রদান করে। Appositive. Noun Phrase-এর কাজ করে। Appositive-এর পূর্বে এবং পরে Comma বসে। Appositive প্রধানতঃ তিনভাবে ব্যবহৃত হয়।

1. Nominative in Appositive: এক্ষেত্রে Appositive-টি Subject-এর পরে বসে। Mr. Ahmed, Principal of our college, is a good administrator.

ব্যাখ্যাঃ Case-in-Apposition-তার পূর্ববর্তী Noun সম্পর্কে অতিরিক্ত তথ্য প্রদান করে। এখানেও Principal of our college. এ Noun Phrase-টি তার পূর্ববর্তী Noun-Mr. Ahmed এর পরে বসে তার সম্পর্কে অতিরিক্ত তথ্য প্রদান করে। তাই Principal of our college- Appositive বা Case in Apposition.

2. Objective in Appositive: এক্ষেত্রে Appositive-টি Object-এর পরে বসে Object সম্পর্কে অতিরিক্ত তথ্য প্রদান করে।

We invited Mr. Islam, a great physician of Bangladesh.

ব্যাখ্যাঃ উপরের Sentence-এ "a great physician Noun Phrase-টি "Mr. Islam" Object-টির পরে বসে তার সম্পর্কে অতিরিক্ত তথ্য প্রদান করে। তাই a great physician of Bangladesh Appositive.

3. Possessive in Appositive: এক্ষেত্রে Appositive-টি Possessive হয় এবং তা তার পূর্ববর্তী Noun-এর অধিকার (Possession) নির্দেশ করে।

I have read Nazrul, the poet's work.

ব্যাখ্যাঃ উপরের Sentence-এ 'the poet's work Appositive কারণ poet এর সাথে Possessive-এর চিহ্ন ('$) আছে এবং তা তার পূর্ববর্তী Noun Nazrul-এর রচনাবলীর উপর Possession নির্দেশ করে।

অনেক সময় Appositive Sentence-এর শুরুতে বসতে পারে। এক্ষেত্রে Appositive-টি Sentence-এর শুরুতে বসে এবং যে Noun সম্পর্কে অতিরিক্ত তথ্য প্রদান করে তার পূর্বে বসে।
