Kinds of Sentences With Examples And Answers

Structure এর দিক থেকে Sentence তিন প্রকার। (a) Simple. (b) Complex, (c) Compound. 

Simple Sentence: যে Sentence-এ একটি মাত্র Subject ও একটি মাত্র Finite Verb (সমাপিকা ক্রিয়া) থাকে

তাকে Simple Sentence বলে। 

যেমন-

(i) The boys play football. 

(ii) Because of his illness, he could not attend the meeting.

Complex Sentence: যে Sentence-এ একটি Principal Clause এবং এক বা একাধিক Subordinate

Clause থাকে তাকে Complex Sentence বলে।

Subordinate Clause এর শুরুতে সাধারণতঃ if, though, although, as, because, since, so that, that, until, till, unless, when, why, who, which, where, how, before, after, whether, while বসে।

যেমন- 

(i) Although he is rich, he is honest. 

(ii) I know that he would help me.

প্রথম Sentence এ "Although he is rich" Subordinate Clause এবং he is honest - - Clause. Principal

দ্বিতীয় Sentence এ I know - Principal Clause এবং that he would help me - Subordinate Clause. অতএব Sentence দুটি Complex Sentence.

Compound Sentence: যদি কোন Sentence এ একাধিক Principal clause and, but, or. yet, and so, therefore, ইত্যাদি Co-ordinating Conjunction দ্বারা যুক্ত হয় তাকে Compound Sentence বলে।

যেমন-

(i) He is rich, but he is honest. 

(ii) Read or you will fail.

(iii) I went there and found him reading.

N.B. and দ্বারা যুক্ত Compound Sentence এর দ্বিতীয় Subject টি উহ্য থাকে।

উপরোক্ত তিন প্রকার sentence ছাড়া আরও দুই প্রকার sentence আছে। 

(a) Multiple Sentence, (b) Double Sentence.

(a) Multiple Sentence: যে sentence এ দুই এর অধিক Co-ordinate clause থাকে তাকে Multiple Sentence বলে। যেমন-

The boy came home, took rest and went to the playground.

ব্যাখ্যা: উপরের Sentence-টি একটি Multiple Sentence কারণ তাতে তিনটি Co-ordinate clause আছে।

clause ৩টি হলো- (i) The boy came home (ii) (he) took rest ও (iii) (he) went to the playground. Multiple Sentence এ অনেক সময় Co-ordinating conjunction উহ্য থাকে। সেক্ষেত্রে comma বসে। যেমন- উপরের Sentence-টিতে took rest-এর পূর্বে Co-ordinating conjunction 'and' উহা আছে।

(b) Double Sentence: যে sentence দুটি Co-ordinate clause থাকে তাকে Double Sentence বলে। যেমন- He went to the market and bought some vegetables.

তবে Double Sentence এ সব সময় যে দুটি Principal Clause / Independent Clause / Co-ordinate Clause থাকে তা নয়। অনেক সময় Double Sentence এ একটি Principal Clause / Independent Clause / Co-ordinate Clause ও সমজাতীয় দুটি Sub-ordinate Clause-ও থাকতে পারে। যেমন- I know where he lives and what he does.

ব্যাখ্যা: উপরের Sentence টিতে একটি Principal Clause / Independent Clause / Co-ordinate Clause - I know ও দুটি সমজাতীয় Clause (Sub-ordinate Noun Clause) - (i) where he lives. (ii) what he does আছে। তাই উপরের Sentence টি একটি Double Sentence.
