Some Important Uses of Adjective

1. (a) Older, elder, oldest, eldest, older oldest সাধারণ অর্থে ব্যবহৃত হয়।
You are older than he.
You are the oldest of all.
Elder ও eldest একই পরিবার ভুক্তের সহিত ব্যবহৃত হয়।
His elder brother is a very good student.
His eldest son (বড় ছেলে) has come home from abroad.

(b) First, foremost
First: সর্বপ্রথম: She is the first girl in the class.
Foremost: সর্বাধিক গুরুত্বপূর্ণ: Your foremost duty is to study. 
(c) Next, nearest
Next-পরবর্তী। Would you go to Chittagong the next day?
Nearest-নিকটবর্তী This is the nearest school.

(d) Farther: Further
Farther-অধিকতর দূরবর্তী Chittagong is farther from Comilla than Noakhali.
Further-আরও Further discussion would be valueless.

(e) Outer, utter
Outer-অবস্থান অর্থে ব্যবহৃত হয়। He drew the outer circle.
Utter-মাত্রা অর্থে ব্যবহৃত হয়: This is an utter lie.

(f) Less. Fewer
Less-অল্পতর (পরিমাণ অর্থে) I have less food than you.
Fewer-কম (সংখ্যা বুঝাতে) He has no fewer than five thousand books in his collection.

(g) Few, little
Few-কম (সংখ্যা বুঝাতে) I have very few friends here.
Little-অল্প (পরিমাণ বুঝাতে) Give me a little milk.

(h) Latter, later, latest, last
Latter latest দ্বারা সময় বুঝায়।
The latter half of the year was full of events.
This is the latest news.
Later last দ্বারা ক্রম (order) বুঝায়।
The later part of the story bored me
He was the last person to attend the meeting.

(i) Latin Comparatives:
ইংরেজীতে মোট ১২টি Adjective ল্যাটিন ভাষা থেকে এসেছে। তাদেরকে Latin Comparatives বলে। তারা
হলো-
Exterior, Interior, ulterior, major, minor, superior. inferior. senior, junior, prior, anterior posterior. এদের মধ্যে প্রথম ৫টি Comparative অর্থ হারিয়ে positive Degree হিসাবে ব্যবহৃত হয়।
অন্য সাতটি Comparative Degree Adjective রূপে ব্যবহৃত হয় বলে তাদের পূর্বে more বসে না। তাদের পর
than না বসিয়ে to বসাতে হয়। Character is preferable to money. 
(ii) আবার prefer: এর পরে দু'টি Infinitive না বসিয়ে দু'টি Gerund ব্যবহৃত হয় এবং Gerund দু'টোর মধ্যে
২০ বসে।
Inc: She prefers to sing than to dance.
Cor: She prefers singing to dancing.
(Adjective-এর Comparative form ব্যতিত শুধু else. other এবং alternative এর পর than বসে।
He is none else than my brother.
He is none other than my brother.
I have no other alternative than doing.
(ki ইংরেজীতে কখনও Double Comparative Double Superlative ব্যবহৃত হয় না।
Ine. He feels comparative better today
Cor: He feels better today.
Inc: Shamim is most tallest boy in the class.
Cor: Shamim is the tallest boy in the class.
কিছু Adjective-এর Degree of Comparison হয় না। এ জাতীয় কিছু Adjective-এর উদাহরণ দেয়া হলো।
(১) পদার্থের গঠন, আকার ও সময় বুঝায় এমন Adjective-এর Degree of Comparison হয় না। যেমনঃ Earthen, golden, wooden, square, round, circular, triangular, annual, daily, weekly, yearly
ইত্যাদি।
(i) Much এবং little ব্যতিত যে সমস্ত, Adjective যারা পরিমাণ বুঝায় তাদের Degree of Comparison হয় না। enough, all. half, some, whole ইত্যাদি।
many এবং few ব্যতিত যে সমস্ত Adjective দ্বারা সংখ্যা বুঝায় তাদের Degree of Comparison হয় না। One two, double, triple, first, third ইত্যাদি।

fat, hot, red, high, tall, strong, dry, brave, gay, happy, large, gray, lazy, nice, careful, bad, far, fur, nice, merry, cunning, many, much. up, honest, old, active, low, poor, heavy. beautiful, faithful.

2. Turn the following superlative into comparative and positive:
bravest, driest, thinnest, most attractive, most important, best, fastest, quickest, truest, finest, hardest, deepest, coldest, gentlest, least interesting, wisest, ugliest, worst, dullest, utmost, greatest, eldest, blackest, cheapest, fairest.
